Floorhead adjustment setting
Most vacuum cleaners have an adjustment setting on the floorhead, which can be adjusted for different types of flooring.



Check the vacuum cleaner manual to see if the floorhead on the vaccum cleaner is adjustable, if so adjust it to setting specified for the flooring you are using the vacuum cleaner on.

Check the power setting on the vacuum cleaner is set to the correct setting for the floor surface you are using the vacuum cleaner on.

Is the vacuum cleaner now easier to push?
Open the air inlet valve
Most vacuum cleaners have an air inlet valve. When the air inlet valve is open the suction power is reduced, making it easier to push the vacuum cleaner over rugs and thick carpets.



Did opening the valves make it easier to push the vacuum cleaner?
Check for debris / damage on the floorhead
Remove the floorhead from the vacuum cleaner, check that there is no debris attached to the floorhead or stopping the brush bar from turning, then replace the floorhead.

Check that there is no damage to the floorhead, as any damage will have a great impact on the smoothness of your vacuum cleaner.

Belt broken / slipped off
Most upright vacuum cleaners have a belt which drives the brush roll bar. If this has slipped off or has broke, the vacuum cleaner will be difficult to push along the floor.



To check the belt and replace the belt, please check your vacuum cleaner manual in the Care and Maintenance section.

Always make sure that you unplug the vacuum cleaner from the mains before you start any maintenance.

Damaged hose
Check that the hose on the vacuum cleaner is not damaged, as this will reduce the vacuum cleaner's suction and will make it hard to push the vacuum cleaner on the flooring.

Check the dust bag
When the dust bag is full, the vacuum cleaner can become noisy as the motor is trying to suck up dust and there is nowhere for the dust to go.

Check the dust bag and replace if full as per the Care and Maintenance section, in the vacuum cleaner manual.



Always make sure that you unplug the vacuum cleaner from the mains before you start any maintenance.


Is the vacuum cleaner less noisy?
Check the dust container
When the dust container is full, the vacuum cleaner can become noisy as the motor is trying to suck up dust and there is nowhere for the dust to go.

Check the dust container and empty if it is full, as per the Care and Maintenance section in the vacuum cleaner manual.

Is the vacuum cleaner less noisy?

If there is a blockage or debris trapped in the floorhead or any of the pipes or attachments, the motor in the vacuum will try harder to suck up dust, which will make the motor become noisier and over time possibly damage the motor.

If fitted remove the extension tube or combination nozzle and any other attachements and check for any trapped debris or dirt..

Remove and check the filter/s for blockages or debris
If there is a blockage or debris trapped in the filter/s, the motor in the vacuum will try harder to suck up dust, which will make the motor become noisier and over time possibly damage the motor.



Remove and clean the filter/s, checking for blockages or debris trapped. Then replace the filters.

Remove the main hose and check for any blockages.

Ensure the floorhead, hose, and all attachments are attached properly.

Check for any damage to the pipes or attachments as any fracture, splits or holes can reduce suction.
