Has the freezer door been left open for a long period of time?

Leaving the freezer door open for a long period of time will allow warm air into the freezer compartment.


Always close the freezer door as soon as possible after opening it. and ensure it is shut properly.

Door seals

Dirty or damaged door seals can allow warm air into the freezer compartment causing ice to build up.


Clean away debris from the seals and check the seals are not physically damaged, then test the seal.


To check the door seal on the door, try closing the door on a sheet of paper. If you can pull the paper out without resistance, the seal could be loose and may need replacing.


Are the seals in good order?

Placing warm food in the freezer

Placing warm food in the freezer can increase the temperature and cause ice to form inside the freezer compartment.


Ensure only cooled or room temperature food is placed into the freezer.


Has warm food been placed into the fridge freeezer recently?

Defrost the fridge freezer and clean as required.

Please check your fridge freezer manual for the recommended cleaning instructions.

Clearance around the fridge freezer

Insufficient clearance will restrict the proper amount of airflow around the fridge freezer. This can cause the fridge freezer to work harder to stay cool, which can cause ice to build up.


Please check your fridge freezer manual for the recommended clearance requirements.


Does your fridge freezer meet the clearance requirements?

Reposition the fridge freezer.

Is the fridge freezer positioned next to a heat source?

Positioning the fridge freezer next to a heat source such as a radiator or an oven can cause the fridge freezer to work harder to cool.

This can cause ice to build up in the freezer compartment.


Ensure the fridge freezer is not positioned near any heat sources.


Is you fridge freezer close to a heat source?

Thermostat setting to low

Certain freezers have a thermostat control setting. If the thermostat setting is too low, food in the freezer will not freeze.


Please check your fridge freezer manual for the recommended thermostat setting.


Is the thermostat set to the recommended temperature?

Set the fridge freezer thermostat to the correct temperature.

If the freezer has been over filled, air cannot circulate properly. This can cause food not to freeze properly.
